doesn't fit all the way around the bar
I use a very standard size bar, and the pad isn't wide enough to wrap all the way around the bar and close. It ends up being okay because I just put the "open" part opposite my shoulders. It is padded enough to be comfortable- just wish it fit!! 2008-08-29
Works pretty well
It wraps around my standard sized straight bar pretty well, and secures with a velcro fastener. The only thing I have to complain about is you must be sure to set the position of the fastener opposite of where your shoulders rest, or the fastener opens up when pressure is applied during a lift. Other than that, it's comfortable, and beats trying to do squats with no pad, that's for sure. 2008-06-23
A must for Squats!!
The gym I used to work out in bought a couple of these and put them near the squat rack. The foam is spongy, almost like gel. Most of these on the market use regular padding and over time it breaks down and separates, making it just a nilon wrap, with no real padding. The Valeo pad at the gym has been there for months and feels the same way it did the first day it was there; and its on the squat bar ALL DAY!! It helps by putting cusioning on your shoulder blades instead of putting all the weight on your spinal bones. After putting one of these on the bar, I had less soreness in my upper back (where the bar touches the spine). I do a lot of leg exercise with weight on my back and this adds a little bit of comfort. A must for any home gym, if you do anything with a bar on your shoulders. 2008-02-12
